Mayor's Science and Innovation Fair 2023 - Call for Registrations

The City of Cape Town is proud to announce the first "Mayor's Science and Innovation Fair", scheduled to take place on 14 October 2023 at the Cape Town Science Centre in Observatory. This new event aims to develop Cape Town’s science and tech ecosystem by celebrating and rewarding young innovators.

'Cape Town already has an established science and tech sector with a leading global reputation. But our ambition is to be the home address for science and innovation on the African continent. So, to support this sector and grow it further, we want to do what we can to encourage young people in Cape Town to develop their good ideas and pursue careers in science and tech. We are creating this platform for young Capetonians to develop and present innovative projects addressing real-world challenges. With this fair, we hope to inspire the city's youth to develop their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills,' said Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.

With the theme "Innovate Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow," the Mayor's Science and Innovation Fair is aimed at high school students from grades 8 to 11 across the Cape Town metropole area.

In addition to the project showcase on 14 October, the event will culminate in an Award Ceremony where the Mayor will recognise the winners of the inaugural fair.

Prizes will extend beyond individual recognition with special prizes for the schools whose students excel.

Online registration for participants will open on 29 August 2023. Submissions for the competition will close on 2 October 2023.
